“The Miserable Ones.” or “Orphans & Criminals Dance A Jig, Do A Song.”

LES MISERABLES

I liked the first movie with the ever so classic Liam Neeson & (actually talented) Geoffrey Rush. But there’s just something about Uma Thurman I cannot stand. She’s obnoxious beyond all reason.

The 1998 version was watchable… in 1998.  it always felt like there was something missing.

There’s just something about orphans & prisoners & factory workers that screams the need for a little song & dance.

I’m stoked because I’ve never been able to see the musical & as a theatre person, that’s kinda inexcusable. =)

& I can’t help but be a little jealous of the epicness of Hugh Jackman‘s bearded glory.

The cast list for this year’s adaptation is ridiculous.

Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda SeyfriedRussell CroweEddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, & Helena Bonham Carter.

Give a quick look at the teaser trailer below & let me know what you think! (Or don’t.)

The Man-Eating Plant’s Reign of Horror Continues

Little Shop of Horrors is lookin for a remake and it’s maybe chosen Joseph Gordon-Levitt to devour!

I’ve honestly never seen Little Shop, but I imagine it could be vastly improved upon by a lil JGL.

A few weeks ago I wrote about BBC Two's docudrama The Girl which explores Hitchcock's obsession with The Birds star, Tippi Hedren. Fox Searchlight has decided to take a look into the mind of the Master of Suspense as well with a film titled Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho on the rise. Quietly, Searchlight has been casting for their upcoming film for a few months now and they have just added another name to the long list of talented actors.

I'm kind of against reblogging because it seems like total creativity-theft/lazinessssss, buuut I was too lazy to post about this myself and RHINO did a better job than I would have. HERE TIS: Some characters from a thing about some stuff.

The Downfall of Imagination in Hollywood: An Apocalypse of the Mind.

Oh, America.  Don’t you wish you could sometimes just hop in Doc Brown‘s DeLorean and go back to when the silver screen was saturated with magical creativity?  If I’m going to spend 10.5 BILLION dollars going to a movie in theaters nowadays, it’s gotta be good.  But it’s so hard to tell what’s going to be decent anymore.  Thank gawd for Rotten Tomatoes for some guiding light, but even the tomato smashers don’t always get it right.

Maybe we’re just spoiled?  Maybe we should just expect all movies to be awful and then occasionally be semi-pleasantly surprised?  That’s the mentality I’ve tried to have as of late – kind of bleak, but what can you do when the imagination of Hollywood’s gone to shit Bleepsville.

This is a graphic I TOTALLY stole from Short of the Week.  It’s kind of depressing, but totally true.

Why I do Theatre.

This lady rocks.  I just wanted to pop this on here because it was inspiring to me and a good reminder of why I do theatre too.  Theatre reflects reality: it makes us see ourselves and others in ways we may have never thought, it shows us who we really are, it stirs something we’re uncomfortable with – truth.  And it’s that truth I love.

Broadway!

I’m not usually a huge fan of musicals as an actor, but when it comes to seeing Broadway shows, I’m usually pretty stoked.  It’s just an overall good time, most of the time.  The last show I saw was Billy Elliot (which was brilliant), and before that Wicked (meh).  There’s a few newer shows I am super keen on seeing at some point.

I loved the movie.  And while movies don’t always translate very well to the stage, or vice-versa, I think this one has a pretty good chance of being absolutely delicious.  The thing I love about theatre is that, at least to me, it’s more accessible, it’s more personal.  Once, the movie, was personal from the get go – that’s why I loved it, not to mention the music is raw and tearfully scrumptious.  Here’s a few shots from the Broadway version I stole whilst trolling online:

It seems like they were able to keep the feel of the movie while transferring it to the stage.  Although I’m sure it’s a lot different, I have high hopes it’ll be true to it’s source material.

Here’s a little preview of it for you:

Next on my list:

A Peter Pan origin story. How can that be anything but fantastic?  I have yet to read the book this musical is based on, but I WILL.  Here’s a few photos to get you pumped too:

Is it just me, or does the mustachioed dude (CAPTAIN HOOK?) look absolutely hilarious?

Check out the preview! (I have yet to listen to it, because I’m in the middle of a class whilst I blog this, but I watched it on mute and it looks decent. :D )
