I liked the first movie with the ever so classic Liam Neeson & (actually talented) Geoffrey Rush. But there’s just something about Uma Thurman I cannot stand. She’s obnoxious beyond all reason.

The 1998 version was watchable… in 1998.  it always felt like there was something missing.

There’s just something about orphans & prisoners & factory workers that screams the need for a little song & dance.

I’m stoked because I’ve never been able to see the musical & as a theatre person, that’s kinda inexcusable. =)

& I can’t help but be a little jealous of the epicness of Hugh Jackman‘s bearded glory.

The cast list for this year’s adaptation is ridiculous.

Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, & Helena Bonham Carter.

Sword Wielding Pizza Kid Saves A Futuristic America From Techno Meth.

Attack The Block is delicious.  There’s no way around it.  Glow in the dark aliens vs. sarcastic British punkass kids.  It’s delightful in every way imaginable.  If you haven’t seen it, and are into that sort of thing, please, for the love of ET, watch it.

The writer/director of Attack The Block, Joe Cornish (The Adventures of Tin-Tin), is up for another round of off-the-wall kick-ass awesomeness.  Check out the plot summary for the book he’s adapting for the silver screen, Snow Crash:

The book is set in the near future, when the U.S. exists as a patchwork of corporate-franchise city-states, and private enterprise and the mafia control everything. The plot involves a computer virus that is manifested as a drug called Snow Crash that is transmitted visually from computer screens to unsuspecting users, frying their brains. Hiro Protagonist – that’s the character’s name – a computer hacker/samurai swordsman/pizza delivery driver who investigates and tries to stop the takeover of postmodern civilization.

There is literally no way this can not be fantastic.

Rotten Tomatoes‘ Rotten Idea Of The Week segment always includes a few juicy insights into some future film projects.  Sometimes the Rotten Ideas turn out to actually be brilliant – I think I saw Heath Ledger‘s casting in The Dark Knight posted there first, and we all saw how un-Rotten that turned out to be.  But sometimes the ideas are truly bad to the bone – like everything about John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe in The Raven.

This week features a few entertaining possibilities which Rotten Tomatoes is saying sound like terrible ideas:

1) Guy Richie reinventing Treasure Island.

2) Isaac Newton as an action hero.

UM, those both sound like fantastic ideas to me.  ISAAC NEWTON as an ACTION HERO? One word for that: Badass.  I mean, imagine the tagline possibilities: “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction….”

While Guy Richie is sometimes always hit or miss, I can totally see Long John Silver as a fast-talking gypsy boxing champ played by a one RDJ, if you know what I mean.

I’m calling Rotten Tomatoes’ bluff on this one: these sound effing brilliant.

A Storm Brews & Hot Young Actors Board Apocalyptic Boat.

Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth, and Jennifer Connelly are set to join Russel Crowe aboard Noah‘s Ark. (Woah, that was a lot of links.)

I have been stoked for this project ever since I heard of it’s origins a few years ago.  Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Wrestler, The Fountain, Requiem for a Dream) has been brewing this movie up since his childhood, so I’ve heard.  He’s apparently obsessed with the biblical Noah.  We’ll see if his infatuation juices the creativity poured into the project or if it storms on this apocalyptic parade.

Basically the only question I have is, why Russel Crowe?  Why the hell Russel Crowe?

You might as well cast Mel Gibson.  Right?

P.S.  I’m stoked to see Emma Watson and Logan Lerman in Perks Of Being A Wallflower this September.  Are you?

The Great Gatsby or only The Decent Gatsby?

I’ve liked most of what Baz Luhrmann has done.  It’s weird but, to me, enjoyable.  Leonardo DiCaprio is hit and miss, but lately I feel like he’s been hitting.  Carey Mulligan is one of my favorite female actors, especially after her spin in Never Let Me Go.  So, I’m pretty stoked for The Great Gatsby to hit the silver screen because I really enjoy the book.  It’s classic.  Duh.  After watching this trailer, I’m still stoked for it.  The dialogue seems a little wack, but the visuals are delicious.  Will I be seeing this in 3D though? Only time will tell.

The Fight Against Cancer Causes Cancer

There hasn’t been a lot of cancer in the lives of people I know, which I am eternally grateful for – there’s been some, just not a lot.

But this, this kinda pisses me off.

ARGO

This looks pretty tasty.

Based on true events, Argo chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis – the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage.  But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIA “exfiltration” specialist named Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.
